A pressed penny (also known as a squished penny, squashed penny, smashed penny or elongated coin) is one that has been flattened, stretched and impressed or embossed with a new design. They are collected or traded as commemorative or souvenir tokens. You can find penny press machines in popular tourist spots such as zoos, parks, museums, amusement parks, roadside attractions, landmarks and state fairs.
The collecting of elongated coins is a branch of numismatics. Elongated coins are also categorized as exonumia.
The first time I saw a penny pressing machine was in Cabazon, California in the gift store near the life-sized dinosaurs. I was hooked, and I've been collecting them ever since.
Welcome to my pressed penny collection from my travels across the USA and/or found in geocaches!
