How to get Married. (counsel by Byrd.) 1. Sit three feet away from Her on the Davenport. Tell her it's a nice evening, but you thought for a while it was going to storm. Look at her, gulp, and look the other way. Move three inches closer. 2. Meet her eyes squarely, look down, and stammer that yesterday was a nice day, too. Adjust necktie and pass forefinger between collar and neck. Sigh, and meet her eyes squarely. 3. Move six inches closer, and look nervously to see if she saw you. Smile feebly, and tell her that it will probably be a nice day tomorrow unless the wind comes up. 4. Slide a foot closer, then lean back as if you were merely trying to sit more comfortably. Sigh, and pick thread from your coat, examine thread from all angles. Roll thread up into little ball and tap floor nervously with left foot. Look at her for nearly three seconds, then look at floor. Look at ceiling, and study wallpaper design. |
5. Adjust necktie and move closer. Hold breath and summon desperate courage. Hunt her hand. Once upon it, and don't let it get away. Look into her eyes, turn pale and stammer. Squeeze her hand, and move still closer. Heave terrific sigh, swallow hard, and aim kiss at lips striking her left eyebrow. Don't let her get away. Hold pose until exhausted. 6. Ask her. (From the Saginaw News.) Love Cake 1 cup hugging 2 cups kissing 1 cup teasing Heat in dark room, bake in each other's arms. And beat it when the old man comes. (Found in Frankenmuth News.) |
I didn't know I was interested in Deltiology, nor did I know it was even a word, until I ran across this interesting seven-page pdf! It's entitled 'Stamped Cards and Postcards' from the Historian of the United States Postal Service, dated September 2014. https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postal-history/stamped-cards-and-postcards.pdf
